Update from Her Turn – Empowerment Programs in Nepal, Spring 2015

PaxWorks’ continued support has enabled Her Turn to increase their empowerment programs to low caste, historically marginalized ethnic groups of girls. Due to the program’s impact, girls are becoming aware of their legal rights to education, the right not to be married off as children, to be more than household drudges.

However much communal consciousness has been raised, it takes much time to transform a society’s practices. Girls’ suicides are now being addressed through a PaxWorks funded specifically designed curriculum to address this endemic problem.

For the first time early marriages have diminished, and sexual and gender based violence has been outed, named, and is being reported. The girls are beginning to speak out for themselves, voices are raised even among the newly added target groups aged only 12-16.

We are grateful to be part of the work.
