Students at WEP’s Leadership Academy in Madurai, eager to share their unique skills, initiated SPARK, a student-led teaching platform. Starting first with budgeting and career discussions, SPARK soon included Silambam, a traditional martial art, dancing, drawing and other interests and hobbies.
Inspired by Madurai students, SPARK quickly spread to WEP Academies in Ramanathapuram and Hyderabad, where students eagerly formed their own sessions sharing their unique talents and interests.
Throughout the year, SPARK sessions provided students the opportunity to develop mentoring skills while pursuing their passions – including Bharatanatyam, portrait drawing, sign language, wellness, NetBeans coding, Power BI Desktop, aari embroidery, hairstyling, thyroid health, and jasmine and marigold stringing. Students expanded these sessions beyond the classroom by tutoring village children, teaching cycling, cultivating kitchen gardens, leading book clubs, organizing domestic violence awareness discussions, and exploring advanced topics in technology, languages, budgeting, banking and job readiness.
Additionally, students launched three career-focused clubs: Career Interests: Guiding students with diverse career interests; Exam Study Groups: preparing for government service exams; and IT: exploring tools and certifications for tech careers.
