Sembrandopaz has been offering School in the Forest for over three years to low-income rural children (95% girls) near Sincelejo, Colombia. They learn to love and care for nature, love and care for themselves and each other. Consistently the children walk long distances, come early and stay late. They delight in all they learn in the science lab, the library, birdwatching, conflict resolution, and active participation in protecting the forest. The affirmation, food, attention, and support they receive inspire them enormously.
They felt bereft during the long summer vacation so PaxWorks is supporting a summer program for both the teenage and young students.
